Zinc Oxide is a white fine fluffy powder with wide range of particle size from 5 microns to 0.1 microns depending upon the process of manufacture. It turns yellow in high temperature but regains its colour on cooling. It does not melt but sublimes at ordinary pressures at 1975±25°C. It exhibits thermoluminiescence and photoconductivity. Its solubility in water is 0.005 gm/ltr. at 25°C. A slurry of the commercial product has a PH of 7.5 - 7.9. The oxide is more soluble in aqueous ammonia (0.28 gm/ltr. in 1% ammonia at 25°C). It is a stable compound and can be stored for considerable period of time.
